Single Malt
Classic Campbeltown single malt matured in first-fill bourbon barrels before a finishing period spent in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. A wonderful introduction to the delights of this great distillery, and frankly just a great whisky with a pleasing toffee core and rich depth.
Vibrant fruit emerges first (peach flesh and green apple peels), followed by chewy vanilla fudge, a hint of salinity, then an array of oak-y spices including some char.
Opens with more fudge with a little dusting of powdered sugar. Powerful, oily and a touch herbaceous with some German brandy character.
Sherried notes come through more on the finish.
This was my 1st GC expression and Boy, was I impressed. I love the pop and fizzle as the flavours burst when I slosh it around my mouth. Not pretentious or loud, but really well balanced for the price. A wonderful dram to get more people excited about Whiskey.
Beautifully balanced mix of salt, raisin, and brown sugar.
Amazed at speed of delivery ordered midday on standard delivery. Expecting arrival in 3 to 5 days. Delivered within 24 hours. Impressed
I’m not sure about all of these reviews that bang on about the nose, earthy, etc. all you need to know is it tastes lovely. I have a sweet tooth generally and there’s a rich flavour of sherry and raisins: it’s not far off a whisky version of rum and raisin ice cream if you ask me. Regardless, there was no bitterness and a double measure lasted an age as i savoured it. Mega smooth. Best whisky I’ve ever tasted. it blows any of the Jura into next year. Taste is subjective but love this.
I tried this alongside the Glenkinchie and the Tamadhu, and this one came up tops, marginally. It was very similar to the Tamadhu, but I could get more notes out of this. Completely different to the Glenkinchie, which was just too peaty/mossy/coppery for me. For this on the nose, it was just absolutely fresh with citrus and grapfruit coming through - think 4711! On the tongue, salted caramel up front, an earthy body and a sweet but hot cinnamon finish. After opening up with a drop of water, more burnt or darker toffee came through, with white flowers on the nose and a smokey finish. Tamadhu 12 - I gave 6/10 Glenkinchie 12 - 7/10 This - 7.5/10
