Glen Scotia Double Cask PX Sherry Finish

Classic Campbeltown single malt matured in first-fill bourbon barrels before a finishing period spent in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. A wonderful introduction to the delights of this great distillery, and frankly just a great whisky with a pleasing toffee core and rich depth.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Vibrant fruit emerges first (peach flesh and green apple peels), followed by chewy vanilla fudge, a hint of salinity, then an array of oak-y spices including some char.

    Palate

Opens with more fudge with a little dusting of powdered sugar. Powerful, oily and a touch herbaceous with some German brandy character.

    Finish

Sherried notes come through more on the finish.

Very hard to beat at the price point

This whiskey basically has all the characteristics I love at a great price. Love the maritime salty notes, the sweet fudge from the first fill bourbon casks then then big sherry hit at the end. It's up there with the best non age statement whiskeys I've ever tried and will definitely always keep a bottle in the collection (open!). Great 'go-to' dram to relax with and share.

    Great value, strong coastal flavours

Double cask is about the style and flavour and has no age statement because it is a mixture of aged casks (6-9 according to brand ambassador) that isn’t always the same. The saltiness that comes from being surrounded by angry coastal waters comes over instantly but this has more to it than that with a sense of vanilla. It stands well against the 18yr old big brother and if you are more cost conscious is a very well priced alternative.

    Excellent

A really fine whisky for the money.

    Stick With It...

I usually drink smokey and peated Islay malts but fancied a change, my local whisky shop recommended this. First taste seemed a bit insipid if I’m honest, but the aftertaste was pleasant. It’s very easy to drink and reveals a great saltiness with each sip. Quite impressed for the price, a good whisky for when the smoke and peat gets a bit much!
