Classic Campbeltown single malt matured in first-fill bourbon barrels before a finishing period spent in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. A wonderful introduction to the delights of this great distillery, and frankly just a great whisky with a pleasing toffee core and rich depth.
Vibrant fruit emerges first (peach flesh and green apple peels), followed by chewy vanilla fudge, a hint of salinity, then an array of oak-y spices including some char.
Opens with more fudge with a little dusting of powdered sugar. Powerful, oily and a touch herbaceous with some German brandy character.
Sherried notes come through more on the finish.
I can't say I've tried it but I simply have to balance away the review below where the person has become confused that their scotch doesn't improve not with a drop of water, but with a "Dark Jamaican mixer".
When making a purchase I haven't tried before, I found the reviews on Masters of Malt have never failed me, until this bottle. There is not much going on with this but a funny taste, which is a hint of what's to come. That hint turns to a revolting mess on the finish. Never drank such a bad whisky and I've tasted Haig Club, it even a overpowered a Dark Jamaican ginger mixer! Re-reading the reviews I still cannot explain the disparity between what I read and what I've tasted - maybe its a dud bottle.
You'll be hard pushed to fine a better value for money whisky Has a big salted caramel punch that coats your mouth, especially on the finish. Holds it own against whiskies double the price

This is the second bottle I've tried from Glen Scotia, the 2003 Festival being the first, and I was not disappointed. (Lasted all of two sessions, in fact) For £36 you will not find a better Scotch on the market. Next up I'm going for the 20 yr old........I just know it will be outstanding! ??
