Glen Scotia Double Cask PX Sherry Finish

Classic Campbeltown single malt matured in first-fill bourbon barrels before a finishing period spent in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. A wonderful introduction to the delights of this great distillery, and frankly just a great whisky with a pleasing toffee core and rich depth.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Vibrant fruit emerges first (peach flesh and green apple peels), followed by chewy vanilla fudge, a hint of salinity, then an array of oak-y spices including some char.

    Palate

Opens with more fudge with a little dusting of powdered sugar. Powerful, oily and a touch herbaceous with some German brandy character.

    Finish

Sherried notes come through more on the finish.

Rich and slightly firey without water.

Nose of caramel, sea and smoke. tastes quite peppery and a rich fruity basis.. a bit of smike on tongue too. Its a bit young and firey and a small amount of O2 helps this along nicely. Lots of cinommon and nutmeg in finish even with the water. Nice dram tho and of its home.. Cambeltown. struth

Not quite Talisker 10, but darn close

It is an amazing rich whiskey for the price. Reminds me of a tangy Talisker 10. With a bit of buttered bread and fruity taste. Sweet corn, which is why it reminds me of Talisker 10. Just delectable! Not perfect, but darn good!

    Easy-going, fruity, salty, sweet beauty

Just opened a sample and am very impressed. Super-easy drinking, but with plenty of body and power. The PX finish brings a sweetness that's more fruity than the deep toffee I expect from PX. (Past Benriach and Blair Athol PX finishes were like glorious toffee apples) I disagree with a couple of the notes below- there's not a hint of peat and not much fudge, but yes, salted caramel. Reminded me most of Balblair from a few years ago (sweetness and easy-going power) It's not the most fantastically characterful of drams, but you don't want to be getting down n dirty with Springbank every night, do you? Highly recommended and RIDICULOUSLY good value

    Well banlance

The perfect combination of bourbon and sherry cask The whisky distillery from Campbelltown is already one of the highlights, with sweetness of various toffee and cream and a mild peat with a lingering finish. Calvin

    A great value malt

On the nose it's initially intensely fruity, apples, pears and a little hint of something sharper like grapefruit. There's caramel and brown sugar, big oaky hit from the bourbon barrels and a salty note in the background. Uncompromising in the mouth, the sherry influence takes over. Deep fudge, toffee and some nuttiness combine with that saltiness again. Salted caramel dessert with a good whack of mixed spice. Lovely stuff. The finish is a little underwhelming though on this one, it's pleasant and warming, the sherry elements remain, but are gone fairly quickly. Great value for money, just the finish lets it down.
