This is the 15 year old single malt Scotch whisky from Glen Scotia in the Campbeltown region, released in 2015 as part of a redesign for their range. The distillers use specially selected American oak casks to age this expression, which compliment the fruit-forward and subtly coastal whisky rather well.
Lots of rich fruit here - apricot jam, satsuma segments and apple pie. Wafts of sea breeze and baking spices develop after a minute.
Vanilla and fruit, with ginger and cinnamon bring a subtle dryness to it.
Quite long with continuing spice.
How surprise I was to taste this expression after the DC... I didn't expect such a jump in flavour and yet it retains it's composure. Warm, winter stewed pears and peaches with sweet caramel spices velvety custard and honey mouthfeel...an almost kenyan roast coffee note to it that sooths while it awakes the tongue. All of that without getting out of shape. Lovely lovely dram for those in search of a deeper expression. This is on my most wanted list as it goes too quickly. ?
A good first experience. Nice heat and good mouthfeel with a lengthy finish. One to keep alongside you all evening and linger over.
This was a very enjoyable experience. Glen Scotia is certainly a malt with character. Slight heat with a lengthy finish and nice mouthfeel. One to have alongside you all evening.
For us, in our little whisky tasting group, we liked this but didn't think it any better than the 12 year old version, neither sufficiently smoother to justify the extra money. Good, but I'd stick with the 12.
Spiced orange and stewed apricots accompanied by a pleasant amount of spice. Doesn’t need any water IMHO. This gets better each time I pour a glass, a little oxidation in the bottle opens it up more and more over time. Heartily recommended!
