The central, and entry level release in the Elgin Classic range from Glen Moray distillery. Very easy to drink, this stuff offers up hints of soft citrus and barley.
Light, fresh. Grist. Nutty, floral. Dried grass. Slightly fruity.
Oak, gentle. Well balanced, walnut, grist. Citrus, lemon sponge.
Tangy citrus, spicy fruitcake.

Come on now. Reviews after reviews were effusive about this single malt while I was spluttering in shock at every neat sip. I thought I was getting it wrong, but no, this is one tough whisky to drink. Quickly added some rocks and water and it goes in better but leaves a distinct bitter taste in the palate. Colour is unimpressive, age unknown/unstated. Pay half and get nothing, pay full and get the right stuff.
It's not The McCallan 25 but, then again, it's 1/10 the price. It's entirely acceptable to the average palate and even the Whisky expert would probably find it not without merit. It costs the same sort of money as the average blended Whisky but without the usual foulness which besets most blends. Very good value for money.
When I purchased this bottle my expectation was very low.... however, I was very pleasantly surprised, it is light, fresh, citrusy and very accessible. I had this along side The Glenlivet 12 and preferred the Glen Moray by a considerable margin
This is often on offer in Tesco for £18-£20-ish. It's not a complex whisky but it's very quaffable & easy to drink. When you can get a decent enough single malt at bargain basement prices why bother with blended? I'd recommend this without hesitation.
This is my first Glen Moray Elgin ever as I've read bad reviews so I've always walked pass but at a give away price at Christmas I bought it and left it in the kitchen till now. I love a Speyside Malt but only with a bit of age to it and as for any thing that's bottled as soon as its cold, so to my surprise I enjoyed a large one after dinner followed a pleasing second. I won't pass a Glen Moray again as the price makes it a good drinking Whisky and I shall be looking for a 10 yr or 16 yr for my sipping treat in future.
