Glen Moray Peated - Elgin Classic

A peaty expression joins Glen Moray's Classic range! Reasonably laid-back for a peated expression, but by no means lazy, this Speyside single malt Scotch whisky balances peaty whiffs with plenty of vanilla, and some fragrant elements as some of the distillery's usual character makes its way through. One for those newer to peaty whisky, as well as peat fans, and great value.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Familiar peat smoke off the bat, with characteristic butteriness developing.

    Palate

Smoke never gets too intense, but plays a central role alongside vanilla and orchard fruit.

    Finish

A little bit peppery, though still enjoyably sweet.

    Peat tastes like TCP

To the guy 2 reviews below who said it tastes like TCP - Yes it does but thats exactly what a peated whisky should taste like! Its like marmite, you either love it or hate it. Having said that this is quite a lightly peated whisky compared to the likes of laphroig, it’s more like a bowmore. There is a very nice peat to malt balance. If you like the taste of peat and can find this on offer below £20 it’s a no brainer. Also worth noting, dosnt look like any caramel colouring added which is always a sign of a quality whiskey imo.

    Inexpensive, quality, great taste...

I was fortunate enough to have been in 'The Grill' bar in Union Street, Aberdeen a while back with a friend, and were discussing what we should try, when he spotted that the 'Malt of the Month' was a Glen Moray Classic Peated which neither of us had tasted. We duly ordered 2 x of the above and to say were pleasantly surprised would be a major understatement... This is not an expensive dram, but boy does it deliver! Needless to say, we had one or two more, to back up our initial findings. Enough to say, that we were as impressed with the rest, as we were with our initial drams and as a result would have no qualms in giving this 4 out of 5 stars.

Great value but not great taste

Always liked Glen Moray whisky as you get a tidy enough malt for a really good price but this was a little disappointing. The only flavour I get is peat and nothing else even a bit water didn't help, my opinion is if you want a more pleasent peated whisky then your better off buying an Islay brand.

Unmatched peated whiskey for the price.

Wow! I live for peated drams. For £22 its a steal! Well balanced, strong peat on the nose, peardrops, rich oak complexity, not too sweet on the palate. peat sits nicley in the mouth necer overpowering but always there. complex, tastes more like an 18y. I would rate this second to my all time fav.. Longrow peated. and rate it higher than anything below £30. for sure. it could benefiy from a higher alcahol % I give it 5 stars for the price.
