Glen Moray
Scotland
Single Malt
Wine casks are great for imparting a wealth of fruity notes to whisky, and Glen Moray knows this fact particularly well indeed. What we've got here is a single malt from the Glen Moray Distillery which has been given a finishing period in casks that previously held Chardonnay wine. An intriguing choice, making for some excellent Speyside whisky.
Lemon, honey, pineapple, vanilla ice cream, buttered bread.
More vanilla, now with biscuity notes in support. Still has a lot of fresh fruit vibrancy.
A soft hint of woody spice.

I've had Glen Moray standard addition quite often and the sherried version a couple of times. (Usually had quite cheaply in a supermarket and reasonable value at the £20 mark). I have to say that this isn't a very pleasant experience. I generally go for higher abv for a full-b flavour bu even at 40% this is a bit harsh for my taste. A few drops of water opened up the nose and made it smoother on the palette but the after burn is still there and it is not a pleasant finish in my opinion
I got the vanilla, and would compare it more to a good old fashioned bread and butter pudding (sans creme anglais). As a stand alone it's excellent, both for taste and price. It doesn't have the same range, or depth of flavour as its older vintage, but at 2/3 of the price, it's definitely good enough for what you pay. One of those, you could just have another wee nip to be going on with.
