No age statement malt from Glen Grant, The Major's Reserve is very easy to drink, and a great entry level malt from the distillery.

The Major's Reserve 1L bottle is currently available at Carrefour Calais as a BOGOF; that's 2 x Litre bottles for 27.95 Euros - approx. £25 = £12.50 a Litre bottle!! Just had to give this a try!! Well, no it's not a Glenfiddich or Glenlivet, but with a dash of water, very acceptable. It’s very light and floral, if that’s your kind of dram, and certainly goes down easy. At £12.50 a Litre I rate it 5-Stars, great Value For Money. If paying £23 for 70cl bottle, then possibly 2-Stars. But, my personal preference at this £23 price break would be Chival Regal 12yo (£20), or Johnny Walker Black Label 12yo (£25), purchasing when on promotion in UK.
What an embarrassment. Glen G used to have a certain poise and, if not the finest of highland malts, certainly had its place. But this stuff, oh dear. It's been a long time since I have actually improved a malt by adding ice. Still, at that price it's a cheap, slugging whisky for when I really really need a slug when i get home.
'Hey man! Nice collection!' 'Thanks, would you like a glass?' 'Sure, do you have Cola?' Only situation you'll ever need this bottle for.
Reviewing it while drinking it shows it hits the spot with my fumbling the rating. Went back to look at my Aldephi blended review and noticed it is now cheaper than it was. About the same price as Adelphi blended that I can only get a one store in town that is only open during business hours compared to Glen Grant at a chain of stores across town that are open after hours. Compared with Teachers 1:1 with water and prefer Glen Grant.
I like Glen Grant Major's Reserve mixed 1:1 with water instead of over ice. Smooth & light. It would be overwhelmed with dry ginger or ginger wine. I can buy it for the same price as a blended scotch. Cheaper for me to drink with water than a blended scotch with a mixer. Not to bag blended scotch though as I like Teachers with a mixer for its peat & sweetness. I prefer Aldelphi blended scotch for the same price but it is much harder to find than this.
