Glen Grant
Scotland
Single Malt
A great beginner's whisky right here from the Glen Grant Distillery, produced in tall pot stills. This 10 year old Speyside single malt, having spent a decade in bourbon casks, boasts oodles of light, malty notes. A top dram for warmer weather.
Medium. Vanilla, toffee apple. Herbal, hint of smoke.
Firm. Sweetness, fruity, vanilla. Gentle peat, malty.
Dry, supple peat, toffee.
£5.62 - £43.75
Super dram, it could cost twice as much, no one would complain...
Gorgeous. Floral. Notes of heather. Almost perfect 10 y/o expression. L
I don't always agree with Jim Murray, after all he scored uigeadail under 90 this year, which is madness. On the other hand, this is everything he's written. It's a belter for the money. I don't get all these "whisky for a beginner" comments, it's just a drink folks and we all have our taste preferences. There's plenty of people whose first collection are right up there in the Islay months bathers that are supposedly only to be appreciated by experienced drinkers, utter bollocks. There is no such thing as beginners whisky, it's a patronising pile of shite! Meantime, buy this. It tastes great and it's cheap as chips. Bargain!
This is an absolute gem, especially for the price. You won't go wrong buying yourself a bottle to enjoy the smoothness, taste, and light complexities. I always have one on my shelf. It's not like some of the finer scotch out there, but it does very well for itself.
Got a bottle of this for £21.50 on a special offer. Crazy bargain. There's a lot going on. If you pour a generous dram to sip slowly it develops nicely in the glass. Malty on the nose, sweet and slightly citrus. Green apples, toffee apple, orange peel, slightly sweet. Long finish, hint of nuttiness about it sometimes which is nice. For me, there's quite a lot to experience in this whisky and it's very easy to drink. One I suspect is very easy to find yourself at the bottom of quite quickly.
