Single Malt
Glen Elgin
The Glen Elgin Distillery dates back all the way to 1898, and it's situated up in the Speyside region. Using six stills and six wooden worm tubs, Glen Elgin produces a wonderfully fruity, flavoursome spirit which is very popular among blenders. But blends aren't why we're here – we're here to get the full-on Glen Elgin experience from its ace single malt! This is the 12 year old expression, the only official distillery bottling from Glen Elgin, boasting those aforementioned fruit notes alongside helpings of buttery vanilla and sweet spices.
Cereal sweetness on the nose, with hints of rum spice, a little espresso coffee, toffee apples and ginger.
A soft, malty palate with hints of salty butter, Corinth raisins, walnut loaf and coffee ice-cream.
A long, malt-driven finish with hints of sugary porridge on the tail.
Its sweet, creamy coffee nose flows through into the palate and with its maltiness reminds me a little bit of a Highland scotch rather than a Speyside At 12yo I feel it’s still a little young and the older ones, eg the 18yo, are fantastic but you can’t go wrong for the price. Buy one, it’ll not disappoint
Real value for money, after hints of honey and a slight peek at the light smoke in the nosing, Glen Elgin delivers these promises. A soft taster and medium kicker, but the finish leaves you with a long lasting warmth. I would recommend this one to start with in a Speyside tasting. Nevertheless 3.5 stars, because of the missing extras you would expect.
Good all rounder. Hint of smoke and nice long finish. Value for money in my view. Not a 5 star by any means but newbies to Speyside should try
My son was in Edinburgh and picked this up for me on a flyer at the Scottish whisky experience as he'd never seen it in North America, and I'm glad he did. I love the rich and smoky flavour.
It is a very special for a new comer who test this malt, I thought it is very pleasant a big nose and pallete , so I recommend this bottle to new tester to perceive this initiative testing
