The Girvan Patent Still 25 Year Old

Girvan Patent Still 25yo Bottling Note

Determined to give grain whisky the respect it truly deserves, William Grant & Sons are releasing a range of Girvan Patent Still Single Grain Whiskies, starting with this launch edition of their 25 Year Old, a UK exclusive.

The original Girvan Patent Still was built by William Grant's great-grandson, Charles Gordon, in 1963, when it was given the rather catchy name "No 1 Apps" (referring to the term apparatus). After distillation, this whisky was aged for a massive 25 years before being popped into some incredibly elegant bottles, which are then put into striking boxes that are decorated with metal badges and side panels.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Vanilla fudge, Werther's Original, touch of lemon and lime zest. Peppercorns, banana and honey.

Palate Pleasant mouthfeel with some more vanilla and a little apricot.

Finish Woody, sparkling water.

Overall A well-aged grain whisky that's a big step up from the upcoming no age statement release.

Not complex but very clean whisky
For those who don't enjoy the peppery, robust and more complex whiskies, this one is great. For me, it was just not interesting enough... especially not for the price! They must have used a very clean distillate and put into used barrels because there is very little character. Lots of creaminess on the palate, but the nose and the finish are uneventful... not what I was expecting for a 25 year old single grain whisky.

Thank you very much for the speed of your reply. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'm not sure if you have seen any of the Penderyn Bottles and packaging for the Welsh Rugby Teams first Grand Slam for more than 25 years, Swansea and Cardiff City FCs promotion to the Premiership and other bottlings. They also use this style of stunning bottles and packaging. Wishing you a very Happy New Year, ddymuno blwyddyn newydd hapus iawn.

Hi there! This whisky was actually bottled in 2013, after maturing for 25 years. The bottles were designed in conjunction with threebrand, and they chose the slender, tall bottles, for a more elegant feel. The box enhances this and offers a great way of presenting the product. --The Chaps at Master of Malt

Are there any original photos of this Whisky being bottled in the late 1980s. Because and I quote "After distillation, this whisky was aged for a massive 25 years before being popped into some incredibly elegant bottles, which are then put into striking boxes that are decorated with metal badges and side panels." I ask this as the bottles and packaging are exactly the same as Penderyn Welsh Malt Whisky?
