Colour can say a lot about a whisky, and a gloriously rich hue is often enough to get the juices flowing before you've even cracked open the bottle (once you've checked the label to confirm that colour is au naturel, obviously). Imagine if you could use one of those colour pallete charts, like you get at the paint shop when you're doing a bit of redecorating, to help you select your desired dram. Well, Fresh Copper does just that!
This single malt boasts a mesmerising bright, copper colour, the sort that you might find in a generously aged, sherry-finished whisky, which is exactly what you're looking at here. Hailing from an undisclosed Speyside distillery, this whisky matured for a dozen years, including a generous finish in oloroso sherry casks, before being bottled up at natural cask strength, and without any added colour.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose Rich red apple, vibrant roasted malt, and plum sponge, drizzled with honey are backed by simnel cake and a touch of damp oak.
Palate Crisp layers of sweet pastry and cinnamon sugar are enveloped with creamy vanilla and cooked orchard fruits. Tannic oak develops in time, joined by sweet dulce de leche.
Finish Boiled sweeties arrive for the finish, alongside dried red berries and fruit tea. Woody spice nestles beneath, with robust, meaty barley and chewy toffee in tow.
