With an ample proportion of rye in its mashbill, along with corn and malted barley, FEW Rye is a fantastic example of top-notch American craft distilling. It comes from Evanston, Illinois, a city that suffered Prohibition for over one hundred years thanks to many of its advocates hailing from its dry streets. In fact, FEW rather cheekily takes its name from the initials of Frances Elizabeth Willard, a key figure in the Temperance Movement.
Thankfully, Evanston is now home to this excellent craft distillery, producing a plethora of incredible spirits! A spicy, fruity, delicious whiskey - as you might expect, FEW Rye makes a mean Manhattan...
The aroma is particularly fruity with notes of apples, pears and plums with a spicy after thought.
The flavour is as fruity as the aroma with more apples and pears but also a little unripe banana and candied orange peel.
The finish is long and lingering with notes of fresh orange juice, spice and apple tart.
This is a truly exceptional tipple with a beautifully balanced and fruity flavour profile.
Solid rye dram. Good value for the price. Not going to knock your socks off, but this is a solid rye. I don't get as much fruit as master of malt, but i get spicy black tea with a touch of vanilla and honey and pepper, rye toast with candied orange peel, a bit dry on the finish. Nice on ice too, holds up to a couple ice cubes.
Not the smoothest bourbon and little taste of the described fruits
I Was really looking forward to this, great reviews persuaded me. First impressions were great, nose is as described. Fruity, pear like. Yum, I thought. Unfortunately the taste is, well, not right, there’s a rather nasty ethanol/white spirit taste to go with those pear-drop flavours. To the point that it’s practically undrinkable. I’ll go with Michters next time. Very disappointed.
This is an absolute STOMPER. Gold standard on what Rye should be.
Love it. My favorite rye
