The first jewel in Fettercairn’s Vanguard crown. This 29-year-old single malt is one of just 99 bottles and marks the beginning of a three-year journey into experimental whisky making.
Matured for 26 years in a refill bourbon hogshead, the whisky was then finished for a further three years in a bespoke French pink oak cask crafted by Demptos Cooperage in Bordeaux – a wood known internally as Essencia or “Pink Oak”, exclusive to Demptos.
Inspired by the seasonal berry fruits that grow around the Fettercairn distillery, master whisky maker Gregg Glass set out to explore if oak itself could reflect that local flavour character. What he created is an elegant, fruit-forward expression that layers floral notes over Fettercairn’s classic tropical fruit style.
Elegant honey notes, strawberries and cream, dried apricots, brioche and soft baking spices.
Sugared almonds, Alphonso mangos, rich strawberry, grilled pineapple, fresh peach and nuances of dark chocolate.
Fresh baked bread, vanilla, starfruit, peach and soft wood spice.
