A well-aged Fettercairn bottling that combines the distillery's classic dark, rich and nutty character with American White Oak ex-bourbon cask maturation? You can count us in!
There aren't many expressions from Fettercairn that aren't delightful independent bottlings, but the new range introduced in 2018 from the esteemed Highland distillery is set to change all that.
An exciting part of the series, this 28-Year-Old Highland single malt whisky was distilled through the brand's unique still which utilises a constantly running cascade of water to cool the neck before it was bottled at 42% ABV.
It's packaged in the handsome, sophisticated presentation box you see before you which features Fettercairn’s new logo, the Ramsay clan unicorn encircled by a copper ring.
A sumptuous blend of tropical fruits, black treacle and fiery ginger arise initially, with sugared peels and black liquorice underneath.
Fizzing black pepper and espresso bitterness add depth to notes of roasted chestnuts, dried apricots and sharp citrus. Honeyed raisins and chopped oak are present too.
Sticky licks of toffee and lime zest linger.
Toffee and walnuts, ,the viscosity is outstanding, a wonderful long finish ,, one of the best drams I have ever had , the cost is my only complaint
The price is prohibitive. Very strongly nutty. Walnuts, Almonds and Hazelnuts, persist for a long time. Absolutely lovely if you like these flavours, which I do. Very pricey. Dried fruits emerge eventually. A bit imbalanced as the nutty notes dominate and overshadow other aromas and tastes.
My favourite dram - long lasting mouth flavour and round, robust pepper with a finish of toffee
Tasted this recently. It may be 28 years old (so circa1991) but that hardly puts in the the distillery's golden age of distilling (not that Fettercairn is known for golden years). Apple peel and baby sick predominate. Not my favourite notes. Pretty poor for the money.
