    Famous Grouse Blended Scotch Whisky

Famous Grouse is one of the world's most popular blends, and the best-selling Scotch whisky in Scotland. This whisky is a nicely balanced, malty blend which was first made in 1896. It went on to be known as The Famous Grouse, with the name registered in 1905. Around eighty years later, the company was awarded a Royal Warrant. The blend represents great value for money, and it also works beautiful in whisky-based cocktails. Delicious.

A perennial favourite with critics and connoisseurs alike, Famous Grouse whisky is a superb blend with a great deal of character. Today, more than 2 million cases are sold annually, making it one of the most popular whiskies in the world.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

A crisp, light nose offering up notes of toffee apples, hints of dried flowers and biscuity barley.

    Palate

Balanced, biscuit-laden palate with a core of thick, creamy malt. Just a hint of spice and the vaguest whisper of smoke really bring a great deal of complexity.

    Finish

    A slightly sweet, malty finish.

    Overall

A very malty, biscuity blend. It's easy to see why this is so popular in Scotland!

    Grain

I echo the earlier comments on Grain whisky. Reminded me of Haig Club - good if you take with a mixer but if (like me) you drink neat, Bell’s is the best of the blends. Jonathan

    Recently ruined

It has been ruined; from 5 star for a blend to 3 stars.

A great blend for the money

Wow...so many bad reviews here! Not from me, however. This has become my "go to" everyday Scotch. I'm a big fan of the single malts...particularly the peatier Islay malts such as Laphroaig...but I simply can't afford those on a regular basis. My brother turned me onto the Famous Grouse blend; he and his college buddies used to drink it back in the day, calling it the "Kickin' Chicken" LOL. I thoroughly enjoy the smooth, honey-like taste of Famous Grouse. In my opinion, for the money this one can't be beat. Very enjoyable.

    Should be renamed "Famous Grain"

Should be renamed "Famous Grain" because grain whisky is all I can taste in this. If there's any malt I'd say it's less than 20% so what's the point may as well just make it a single grain. The worst blended malt I've ever tried. Whyte an Mackay, Grants and even Bells are leagues ahead of this. Grouse has seriously gone down the swanny!

    liquorice taste

I am not a connoisseur and usually like any whisky, but opened a litre tesco bottle last night and had to pour the glass away. It tasted like liquorice. I then smelled the bottle (usually whisky gives off a strong smell, but it seemed quite weak). I thought it might be a counterfeit bottle until I read this site. I will try it again tonight in case it was my taste buds.
