    Famous Grouse Blended Scotch Whisky

Famous Grouse is one of the world's most popular blends, and the best-selling Scotch whisky in Scotland. This whisky is a nicely balanced, malty blend which was first made in 1896. It went on to be known as The Famous Grouse, with the name registered in 1905. Around eighty years later, the company was awarded a Royal Warrant. The blend represents great value for money, and it also works beautiful in whisky-based cocktails. Delicious.

A perennial favourite with critics and connoisseurs alike, Famous Grouse whisky is a superb blend with a great deal of character. Today, more than 2 million cases are sold annually, making it one of the most popular whiskies in the world.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

A crisp, light nose offering up notes of toffee apples, hints of dried flowers and biscuity barley.

    Palate

Balanced, biscuit-laden palate with a core of thick, creamy malt. Just a hint of spice and the vaguest whisper of smoke really bring a great deal of complexity.

    Finish

    A slightly sweet, malty finish.

    Overall

A very malty, biscuity blend. It's easy to see why this is so popular in Scotland!

    Harshing my mellow

I'm a long time whisky drinker, single malts, blended malts ... I like Speyside so I figured I'd give Famous Grouse a try. I agree with others, the alcohol note is strong, smoothness is lacking, to the point of unbalancing the blend. Dosing with water seems to have a deleterious effect. The flavors don't bloom. Grouse is better straight neat, I think.... Short-aging is all the rage in the whisky AND whiskEy business these days. I wonder if Grouse shortened its aging too. Spending less time in barrel could account for the tasting observations being made here.

    Worst Scotch I've ever drunk

Reading the comments, it is clear that "The Famous Grouse" has been changed lately. I had heard some great comments about it and was glad to purchase a bottle for such a cheap price. It smells terribly. No grains, no peat smoke, just plain alcohol. The taste is very flat and has nothing of what I've read in the positive comments here. Whatever happened to "The Famous Grouse", it wasn't good at all.
