    Famous Grouse Blended Scotch Whisky

Famous Grouse is one of the world's most popular blends, and the best-selling Scotch whisky in Scotland. This whisky is a nicely balanced, malty blend which was first made in 1896. It went on to be known as The Famous Grouse, with the name registered in 1905. Around eighty years later, the company was awarded a Royal Warrant. The blend represents great value for money, and it also works beautiful in whisky-based cocktails. Delicious.

A perennial favourite with critics and connoisseurs alike, Famous Grouse whisky is a superb blend with a great deal of character. Today, more than 2 million cases are sold annually, making it one of the most popular whiskies in the world.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

A crisp, light nose offering up notes of toffee apples, hints of dried flowers and biscuity barley.

    Palate

Balanced, biscuit-laden palate with a core of thick, creamy malt. Just a hint of spice and the vaguest whisper of smoke really bring a great deal of complexity.

    Finish

    A slightly sweet, malty finish.

    Overall

A very malty, biscuity blend. It's easy to see why this is so popular in Scotland!

    undistinguished but balanced

Avoids most of the metallic tang of cheaper blends, has a reasonable combination of the bubblegum sweetness that comes with some grain blends, and the dryness of many malts. but lacks any distinct taste on the finish or any complexity to the nose. By no means unpleasant to drink and good value if you shop around. Ideal for mixing - why waste good malt? - but still good enough to drink on its own.

An excellent quality, but somewhat unexciting blend.

The Famous Grouse is rather like a languid aristocrat: educated, cultured, comes from a prestigious family, moves in the most exalted circles... but... tends to be dull company. It's a complex, delicately sweet, infinitely smooth dram, but when I'm choosing a blend, I'd almost prefer to go for something a bit more rough around the edges, a bid more of a 'lad'. Grouse is just too perfect, too well-mannered. Great for serving up to your lady guests, but not really that much fun to hang around with.
