    White Oak Akashi Single Malt

Single malt Japanese whisky from the Akashi range, produced by White Oak in Hyogo, just west of Kobe. This non-age-statement release ought to prove rather interesting for whisky adventurers looking to try something new.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Non offensive typical Japanese dram

Excellent drop, typical buttery creamy light Japanese whisky. Laphroig drinkers won’t enjoy. *the blended version for the Japanese market contained molasses spirit, the export version didn’t. This single malt doesn’t contain molasses.

    Worth it.

Pretty great stuff. Gentle start and mineral tones lead into a nasal smack with burnt/toasted vanilla. Cereal taste in the middle and and a finish of smooth oak. Great!

Reminiscent of a good lowland scotch.

Whilst it doesn't particularly stand out; this is a very welcoming & smooth, oaky whisky. Rich oak & cereals aroma. Clean, light & fresh on the tongue with a citrus (lime?) and sweet tone. Warm spice gradually builds & subsides. Pleasant beginning to end, reminiscent of a good lowland scotch. I'd suggest overpriced for what it is.

    Reply to molasses

I think that was the blended

    Okay but nothing special

Pleasant on the nose. Creamy/buttery. A bit of a nothing on the palette. Admittedly I like whisky that fights back. My favourite is Laphroaig but I also enjoy gentler tastes such as Cardhu. My first Japanese whisky and I will probably try another one sometime, but not this one.
