The 8th release of heavily peated Edradour single malt released under the Ballechin name, which comes from a long-closed nearby distillery. For the 8th release, Edradour matured the smoky, peaty whisky in Sauternes wine casks, which should be intriguing - the balance between sweetness and peatiness is often rather exciting, if quite tough to get just right.

It’s deliciously sweet especially in the finish, but with enough fire to balance it. It could have done with a bit more peaty, Smokey flavour, but it’s still a firm favourite - and very hard to find now!
This is extremely sweet, syrup-y spirit (the first-fill Sauternes does its job), just slightly balanced by a tiny hint of peat. Go for it if you love rich, succulent whiskies; a 'sauternes bomb' so to speak.
