From the recently revived Dunville's Very Rare range of Irish whiskey, presented by the Echlinville distillery in Northern Ireland, comes a 10 year old single malt Irish whiskey which has been finished in Pedro Ximénez casks. A very intriguing release, with plenty of orchard fruit, custard and old fashioned sweetie notes. It was recently crowned Best Irish Single Malt Under 12 Years at the 2015 World Whiskies Awards.
Fresh green apples, tropical chews and coconut lead, with dried grass and a touch of crème brûlée.
Stewed red fruits, candied orange and a crackle of black pepper initially, before a little mocha, custard and spice rise.
Juicy and pleasant on the finish with some lingering wood.

Excellent floral whiskey. Great herbal smell on the nose. Has a Gin like scent to it. Very smooth and sweet on the taste. Excellent expression
Delicious Irish Malt! Being a huge fan of Bushmills 12yr Reserve, and Midleton, I love this whiskey. Spirited front, with hints of dried fruit/raisins (slight), honey/vanilla/carmel, dry grains, it’s very balanced and very drinkable neat.
Nose of brown sugar, apple peel, flavours of raisins and a hit of citrus on the finish. If adding a drop of water is your thing I would recommend not doing so on this occasion as the slightly higher abv serves to restrain the fruity sweetness of the whiskey. I like that the Irish new kids on the block like Echlinville and Teeling refrain from chill-filtering, though I think they should take a leaf out of Teeling's book and not add caramel colouring to this, (someone correct me if I'm wrong on that account). P.S. To the review titled 'not very rare'. Regardless of whether VR on the front refers to Victoria Regina, the company itself states it is both a throwback to the reference to Victoria's reign on the original bottle and also to it's 'very rare' status, and if you would care to turn your bottle over, you'll see the words 'very rare whiskey' in bold on the back label... So NOT 'Not very rare'!
It arrived in Canada and I think I was probably the first one to buy a bottle! I got a couple for my wedding as my last name is Dunville. Although I bought it for that reason, it is indeed a VERY good Irish Whiskey! I wouldn't hesitate.
I'm a bourbon guy, but I picked up a bottle on my way through Belfast. For the money, I don't see how you can go wrong. Deliciously light, sweet, and drinkable. I only wish I had bought more!
