The Huntly 19 Year Old 1997 (cask 2213925) - The Octave (Duncan Taylor)

Good things come in small packages, so they say – a motto which can be accepted as truth in this instance. Octave casks are teeny (one eighth of the size of a standard cask) holding just 50 litres of whisky for maximum oak influence on the spirit. This is a fact Duncan Taylor uses to its advantage for its long-running bottling series The Octave.

The latest instalment is The Huntly, a blended malt comprised from liquid distilled in 1997 and bottled in 2017. During that time, the whisky spent five months in an octave cask, soaking up that lovely toasty vanilla influence. Only 98 bottles were released – enjoy!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Classic Speyside light fruity sweetness suggest the origin of the malts in this expression. Loads of citrus peels, honey and vanilla here with digestive biscuits and brown sugar, too.

    Palate

Apple crumble, orange peel, and that oaky vanilla spice before toffee notes come through, all underlined by a maltiness.

    Finish

More drying here, with cedar wood notes and warm spices.
