Named after a breed of Highland cattle known for their resistance to the hectic weather of Scotland, the Black Bull Kyloe is just as robust and reliable as those lovely cows (and significantly less hairy). A brilliant blended whisky with a high ratio of malt to grain and bottled without chill-filtration at 50% abv.
Syrup sweetness and warmth, with fruity hints of apples and pears and a touch of oak spice.
Soft notes of plump raisins and nuts. Milk chocolate comes through.
A fairly long finish, rich with vanilla.
A very fine addition to the Black Bull stable (Get it? Stable? Cows? I'll let myself out.).
Not as “rich”, “fruity” or “mouth-coating” as I was lead to believe. Perfume-y, Spirit-y & a bit thin. The Peated version is considerably better.
syrupy, creamy mouthfeel and taste. slightly sweet at first. lots of maddagascar vanilla and a good long finish. Superb for this price.. A winner. struth
Caramel, chocolate almost a bourbon finish, really lovely blend. And great value for money!
Nose prickle, buttered toast, bourbony vanilla, sweet pastry. Salted caramel, chewy, and earthy cocoa. Rye-like, and some vanilla bourbon notes return at the finish. It may have a high malt content, but there's no denying the grain in there. Very good value. Black Bull it may be, but could easily be a buffalo, such is the bourbon influence. Strangely though, when tasting 40% malts I'm always curious as to their natural timbre; what would they taste like at 46%-50%. The reverse is true with blends that are bottled at over 40%.
color: bright amber nose: add a few drops of water and give it some time to open. quite fruity, honey & butterscotch palate: I suspect a rather high malt content relative to most blends. honey & licorice. viscous finish: good length, clean finish This is a satisfying blend. It is nice to see a blend bottled at 50% ABV.
