The Black Bull 21 Year Old blended Scotch whisky from Duncan Taylor once again shows off the blending prowess behind the brand. This expression features a high proportion of Highland whiskies, as well as some Speyside and a touch of Islay, with a 55% malt to grain ratio. Big, bold and spicy, this bull definitely has horns.
Opens with huge notes of juicy, fresh apples and oranges, followed by sweet, slightly burnt brown sugar notes.
Spicy on the palate with nutmeg and clove, balanced with rich vanilla, malt and more demerara sugar.
A balanced finish of spice and sweetness.
Excellent!!!
Fantastic blend. Amazing mouthfeel. At 50% ABV, it definitely needs some water to shine...but not too much. Surprisingly smooth considering the strength. Nuts, lemon zest and oaky spices on the nose. Those nuts come through on the taste - pecans, almonds. Red plums and unripe cherries as well. Sweet barley in there too. Hints of mint, lemon zest and black pepper round out a long finish. A real treasure.
A bit harsh but it's the afterburn which is disappointing
