    Product details

    Dewar's 15 Year Old - The Monarch

15 year old blended Scotch whisky from the Dewar's range, with a particularly regal name - The Monarch. This expression features whisky drawn from bourbon and sherry casks, married together in yet more casks and bottled at 15 years of age.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

A good balance of Sherried spices, nutty elements and apple skin.

    Palate

Oily walnut leading into fresh malt and sultanas. Chewy vanilla toffee.

    Finish

More sweet dried fruit notes with touch of grassiness.

    Worthwhile pet sitting!

I am drinking this as I write. It is beyond my usual price limit. A litre bottle was a gift from neighbours whose pets I cared for whilst they were on holiday. It is really good. I do not dispute the tasting notes, but this Whisky is so well blended I cannot pick out the individual tastes they specify. To me it just tastes like wonderfully good whisky. Shame about the silly unnecessary packaging, (daft tin box) but wonderful whisky. I hope they have another holiday soon.

    Another good one from Perth

I'm a big fan of Dewar's. I like their house style, which is kept consistent throughout the range and they don't overcharge. Predictably, the 15 is richer and more unctuous than the 12, but doesn't quite have the depth and mouthfeel of the 18. The main difference of the 15 is the sweetness, which is more assertive than in the 18. I also agree with the "floral" tasting note which is absent from the 18. You can taste some grain in the 15, but it is very well handled, almost managing to add a seasoning-like astringency to an otherwise sweet, soft Highland whisky. This more soothing than many single malts at a similar price.
