The classic 12 year old blend from Dewars, this stuff is the successor to Dewar's "Double Aged" 12 Year Old - so named in reference to the additional 6 month marriage the whisky enjoys after the initial maturation and blending. The Practice is maintained despite the name change and the result is Loads of flavour…
Nose: A heady note of juicy fruit and thick, creamy malt. Rather floral, and quite sweet with notes of toasted barley, almond and a tinge of honey.
Palate: The palate is perfectly poised with notes of barley malt, hot buttered toast, a little honey, and some aniseed spiciness.
Finish: A touch of smoke on the tail, alongside plenty of thick malt and sweetness.

I'm rating this whisky based on both taste and price to reflect relative value. An entirely inoffensive dram. Neat it is thin, but not without flavour. Hints of grainy vanilla, fruit and hazelnuts, with some honeycomb and a lingering light smoke. A very easy to drink dram that makes a good session dram. For the money this is up against some decent blended malts or single malts. In all fairness, Dewards 12 is not out of place in that company and dependent on taste will measure up to or beyond many.

Nose: Juicy, fresh fruit. Floral, malty, sweet.Palate: Yes, it's perfectly poised with its different components, but it's not complex og not very interesting. It's thin, but very clean. A comfortable mouthful. Sweet, hint of smoke and oak and some honey and toffee. Aniseed spiciness and weak peppery spiciness.Finish: Mild weak smoke, malty sweetness. Too short. Some Aberfeldy here, but (for example) Aberfeldy 12 is a more interesting whisky than this one...

You can't go wrong with this Dewers if you are looking for a nice every blend. It has good honey like sweetness to it. It is one of my go to blends and I always have it in my collection l

I actually got a bit of syrup (maple or corn, not cane) at the nose after the first finger. The finish isn't quite as long as I'd like....but for a blend, this is a standard go to & should be a home bar staple. Not too smoky, which I prefer.I've always had it neat, so can't speak for a splash or rocks. Good luck.

Some might criticize it for being too smooth, but as a vodka drinker, I rather enjoy it. The honeyed and floral profile fits my tastes just fine. Add a teaspoon of water and let it sit for a few minutes for some winey notes. Little to no burn. A decent introduction for beginners, maybe.

Just Outstanding !!!

I just sampled my first Dewars 12 and I do believe my search for the perfect whisky is over.Factor in the inexpensive price of Dewars 12 with its fantastic flavor and quality you come up with a virtually unbeatable whisky. I'll probably never buy another brand of scotch or bourbon after tasting this gold water of life. Lovely stuff!

This is a very smooth Scotch. I loved it

Picked up a liter today at Costco for $35. Could have got it for $30 if I bought 2. Tried it with a splash of water. Extremely smooth, nice subtle sweet flavor. Going to go buy 2 bottles tomorrow

Also a college student trying what I can get my hands on. Not picking up on all the notes/flavors described above, but I do really like it. Good, even flavor and smooth as hell.

I'm just a college kid who tries to get the best scotch I can afford. I'm a big fan of Johnnie Walker Black and loved Macallan 12 when I had a glass with my dad a while back. I got this on sale for 30 bucks in NC and find it pretty good. Goes down smooth. Not an overwhelming amount of flavor like some more expensive singles or blends buy still. Very smooth and flavorful for the price.

I like it. But, what the hell do I know?
At less than 1000 baht in Thailand, this is a good deal. Smooth floral, vanilla, BBQ nose and a nice oily smoothness and typical taste.
15th May 2016
This is a solid scotch blend, I drink bourbon and single malts. ,This is smooth with underlying notes of fruit, honey, smokey, and very well balanced. A true Scotch and blenders art.
27th April 2016
I drink it neat, can't be beat. Great value for the money.
12th April 2016
Subtle and complex, but not noteworthy. I wouldn't be able to say,"what a character, what ...". So, 3.5. Definitely a bargain dram though, and quite worth a try (hence the 3.5 and not just a 3)

This should be sipped not slurped or gargled , preferably with a clean palate undiluted just on its own without mixers, ice or water. pour some in a glass hold it till it warms up and then enjoy. to be frank i have tasted quite a few so called single malts that could burn the paint off a gatepost. for what this is. a blend of good whiskies its great value and well worth a try.

Nice honey-orange color in Glencairn glass. Crisp balanced aroma. Malty but light on the palate. Finish is very smooth, touch of smoke and lingers just a tad. Exactly what I want from a blended scotch!

This new packaging replaces the blue one. Nice floral nose with hints of vanilla and baked cookies/shortbread. The whisky is thick, creamy, honeyed sweetness, malt centric with no grain or harsh notes or burn. On the palate you get shortbread, vanilla, fruitiness with a nice balanced mouth feel and a whiff of pleasant smoke. The Aberfeldy shines through this and the finish is extremely pleasant. Overall a very well crafted blend.

this is the vintage version bottling...still quite the balanced, assertive yet mellow dram i am still impressed with. it's always good to step back and give the single malts a break...this is a good blend to cleanse and titillate the palate.

I HAVE BEEN ENJOYING SCOTCH FOR 25 YEARS AND THIS IS SO SMOOTH I DON'T THINK I HAVE BETTER.....
15th February 2015
I am rookie whiskey drinker - asked for mid-range scotch; rec'd 12 Yr and thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent bar value.
7th February 2015
Nutty and vanilla, but overall kind of boring... I bought this on a whim after seeing the sale price. Not a bad whiskey for the price, that said, I would rather spend the money on a nicer whiskey. It competes with the like of Glenlivet in my book.
14th December 2014
This is the best blended scotch I have ever tried.
28th November 2014
I just bought a gift set for 26.99 at an ABC store in Florida. It contained a 750ml bottle and two very nice Dewar's Old Fashion glasses. The is a very light blend that can stand just a splash soda or water.I usually drink Chivas 12 and 18 or JW black when having a blend which have more flavor. But I'm putting version of Dewars on my go to list.
14th November 2014
I bought a 1.75l bottle at Costco, on sale. I usually buy Dewars White label, which is good whisky. The Ancestor 12, is fine whisky. I just finished the bottle last nite, and am enroute for a couple more. This whisky is so smooth, I just couldn't believe it. It has a very pleasant taste, with excellent aftertaste on the palate. I drink all scotch neat, as I enjoy the taste. I have found Glenlivit 12 to be excellent also. I have tried Cuttysark, and while I like it, it is too harsh for me. It does not compare to The Ancestor or Glenlivit.
24th October 2014
This is a stunning blend, excellent balance, quite sweet, plenty of fruit with a bit of a honeycomb element I also get in Aberfeldy 12. The benefits from the double maturation are obvious as it is such a well rounded blend.
18th October 2014
it is kind a great taste of agedmalt whisky i've rver tried. it is not a single but blended one ref to previous reviews. Therefore this is a 12 year aged whiskey which its taste is proper for whiskey lovers who accept long taste with smoked in barrels long.By the way, for the big boys, single malt whiskeys shoul not be drunk on the rocks, just add chilly water on your whiskey if you can not drink straight strong whiskey ;)
28th June 2014
I found this to be fantastic! Especially for the price. I think all the bad or average reviews here are a reflection of people who still drink their scotch mixed. Become a big boy and drink it as ment Neat or on the rocks. It is great!
9th May 2014
I got a small sample of the 12yr old when I bought a bottle of the Dewars White Label. I actually like the White Label. It's cheap and goes down nice and smooth. Tried the 12yr old sample and I did not like it at all. I don't know how to describe it, it's just got a very strong alcohol bite with no real nice flavor. Smells like rubbing alcohol, lol. Glad I did not purchase a whole bottle of this. I like to drink my whisky neat and I think I'd have to add water to get any enjoyment out of this.
20th February 2014
I'm used to single malt scotch (Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Oban, Ardbeg, Laphroig). I saw this in a Trader Joe's and thought I'd give it a try. I'm very disappointed and sorry I didn't buy a single malt. I'll never buy this one again.
24th January 2014
Great nutty flavor
31st December 2013
I disagree with previous reviewers - fruity and sweet notes are nice and delicate, this Dewars is a masterpiece.
23rd May 2013
TRY IT ON THE ROCKS.A DECENT INTRODUCTION.AV RAMPERSAD/TRINIDAD/WEST INDIES.
15th April 2013
I purchased this expecting something similar to the out-of-stock Special Reserve otherwise by the same name, and was disappointed. As the other reviewer said, fruity and sweet notes were quite weak.
1st March 2013
Although thick, the fruity and sweet notes are overrated by the site in my opinion. Heavy body, too much so I think. I nose a strong smoke, light fruit, and aniseed. The taste however is unbalanced with overwhelming barley, and only underrepresented notes of honey, fruit, and more rounded spice, which could have been better represented. Try a 10 year Dalmore ( for the price range , but anything really) , Johnnie walker swing, or anything Jura instead. I get the feeling more rare Dewar's bottling could be great, but that this is a variety meant to be sold by them name on the label.
