Deanston Virgin Oak is made with young whisky which has been finished in brand new oak casks from Kentucky. Always a pleasure to have Deanston single malt Scotch whisky around, as they are certified by the Organic Food Association and power their distillery using hydro energy, so you can always feel good about the delicious dram in your hand.
Fresh citrus, honeyed barley and a subtle hint of smoke.
Toffee sweets pop up first, followed by a dollop of cream and oak notes.
Oak spices on the finish.
Well made, the new oak doesn't take over the whisky at all, which is always a risk with these casks.
I keep coming back to this whisky because it is so clean tasting but full of flavour despite being aged in virgin oak and at a reasonable price. I enjoy most malts and will continue to browse but this whisky and its organic relation (not cheap!) are too good to ignore. Master of Malt have record deliveries -- it arrives before you have closed the web page (Seemingly!)
Too much vanilla flavor
Somethings…………….better. I can’t put my finger on it. Perhaps the new Master Distiller? Who knows. It’s still Deanston VO, but it’s going ‘out out’
I got this as a free sample with another order. I always like to discover new whiskies, but sadly this one isn't one I'm in any hurry to repeat. It's very ordinary. I can't really find anything in it other than the burn of the spirit, to my palate there's no interesting, complexity or depth of flavour.
Good way of experiencing what flavours Virgin oak can bring without the overpowering influence of corn distillate. Pleasant surprise - sweet and easy to drink.
