A limited-edition single malt from the certified organic Deanston distillery, here we have a cask strength offering of its Virgin Oak expression. Initially matured in bourbon barrels, the whisky then spent a finishing period in virgin American oak casks, imparting an intense array of robust spice, citrus, and crisp orchard fruits to the waxy, honeyed malt at its core. Bottled up at a hearty 58.5% ABV, a drop of water wouldn't go amiss here if you want to really delve into all those flavours.
Robust woody spice and toasted oak welcome the way, with vanilla cream and sweet poached fruit in tow.
Oily malt and waxed citrus peels nestle alongside soft fudge, crisp orchard fruits, and floral blossom.
A rich and spicy finish, with warming notes of clove and cinnamon sticks, spiced honey, and lemon balm.
It took a while to find the right whisky/water ration to take the burn off the edge, but once I found it, what a beautiful combination of flavours! Very strong but smooth and complex. Will buy again.
