Tremendous 12 year old single malt Scotch from Deanston, distilled in 2007 and matured for a total of 12 years. The final two years were spent resting in ex-Calvados casks, and the crisp wafts of sharp green apple certainly add a splendid twist to the honey sweetness at its core. Cracking stuff for sipping on a warm evening, though this ought to make a fab winter warmer too!
Layers of butterscotch mingle with green apple peels, sweet oak, and rich orchard honey.
Creamy barley and sweet caramel lead to sharp apple, bringing a crisp, zesty character. Silky honeyed fruits follow alongside gentle woody spice.
Sweet citrus zest and fresh, crunchy apples tangle with lasting notes of biscuity malt and runny caramel.

Strong smell of cider on the nose and that continues to the taste. Green apples very prominent, quite dry, but doesn't get too sweet. Personally I also got a fairly prominent cigar aftertaste. Very easy to drink for me and enjoyable. However if you like 'complex' or charachterful drams this may be a little bit one note for you.
