A marvellously impressive independently bottled single malt from the Darkness! range - this time distilled by Craggamore in the Speyside region. This 27 year old expression was allowed a finishing period in specially-coopered 50 litre fino sherry casks.
It shows off an intriguing juxtaposition between the classically sweet sherried notes and the punchy salinity that you can find in good fino sherry. Just 100 bottles were produced.
A beautifully composed aroma of grassy malt, thick red wine notes and chocolate sauce, accompanied by warm baking spices, wholemeal bread, oily walnuts and wood polish.
Dry, thick and beautifully balanced juicy dates and stewed plums rise over rare steak meat and damp oak, with flickers of light spices underneath.
Maintains its dryness with a modestly short finish and lingering red wine tannins.
An understated dram full of sumptuous red wine flavours and plenty else to complement them.
