A cracking though cryptic whisky, Dark Bargain is a peaty 10 year old single malt from an undisclosed Islay, boasting a dark hue and a mysterious figure upon the label. What distillery did it come from? Did the person on the label strike a deal with the ground for the peat, with the promise of smoky whisky being the price? What business could they have with the plume of smoke rising before them? Is that actually the smoke monster from LOST?! There are many of questions to be asked about this one, but we feel like the answers might not be found quite so readily. At least there's some smashing smoky whisky to sip while contemplating these secrets...
Heavy smoke with a helping of iodine underneath, plus some sherried notes tucked away.
Continued savoury notes of sea salt, charred oak and salted peanuts, while hints of chocolatey malt and caramel wafers offer sweetness.
Strong coffee, black pepper and earthy peat slowly fade.
As it came from Islay, I just had to buy it. Had the first taste on Friday night, delicious. I’m not going to wax lyrical about, “ you can taste the heather bells and the dray man’s boots, plus a smattering of an Islay bus ticket!” I just thoroughly enjoyed it!
This is a damn good whiskey for the money! not sure i've has anything nicer sub £40 (Maybe had a good deal on lagavullin back in the day when it was still really tasty) just finished my first bottle of this, and really disappointed to find it's sold out! IF you like your whiskey smooth, smokey and unsweetened this is for you!
An absolutely cracking dram for the price. It’s smokier than a 10 year old laphroaig so I’m leaning towards lagavulin but, I’m going to stop trying to figure it out and enjoy.
A classic Islay Whisky with a tasty hint of sherry - clearly favours the peat lovers. Very drinkable with much more to it then the big Islay brands.
It's ok. Imo it's possibly a lacklustre Laphroaig barrel that's been given a quick finish in sherry to boost flavour. Not particularly balanced but quite drinkable. That said, I would prefer a Laphroaig 10 to this and it's cheaper.
