Smooth, fruity and light malt from Dalwhinnie with the benefit of part-maturation in Oloroso sherry casks. Not necessarily 'better' than the standard 15yo, just a very different animal altogether.

I have a bottle of double matured 1981 distilled Dalwhinnie with a special release no: D. SD. 312 which I intend to open this Christmas. Have been unable to find a reference to this anywhere as presumably it is no longer available. Any thoughts would be appreciated - john.best4@btinternet.com
To preference this review, my wife and I are 'new' to drinking scotch. We first purchase the normal 15 yr old bottling based on a recommendation. We planned to drink it as celebration on the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. We drank this bottling throughout our African adventure and loved it. When we returned to the States via London, we purchased the Distillers Edition. We are totally in love with this bottling. It is extremely smooth and light with a elegant flavoring.
