    Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old

Dalwhinnie is the single malt distillery renowned for its great value, gentle whiskies. Full of sticky sweetness and a meaty body typical of worm tub distilleries, the Scotch made here was always a blender’s favourite but its own single malts shine too with their flawless, clean, crisp profile. Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old is a standout that has been Dal-winning its way into our hearts for some time now. The Highland single malt was aged in a combination of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks and has just a smidge of smoke running through it to add depth. Delicious stuff.

    Best I have tried

I was in scotland for the first time in December and developed a taste for the whiskey. Upon returning to Hong Kong where I work I bought 13 bottles of various types of scotch - 21 and 12 year old Balvenie and various others - I also brought 6 bottles of 25 year old Macallan with me. So far I have tried the ones above (have quite a few others to test yet...) but by FAR the Dalwhinnie 15 yr old is the best of the lot. And it's a fair bit cheaper than the others to boot. This whiskey is outstanding value --- I will try the others of course but it is likely this will be my chosen one going forward.

The definition of a highland single malt

Highland classic; an extremely clear expression of what the highlands offer. Single malt connoisseurs won't find anything new here, but that isn't necessarily bad - the Dalwhinnie 15 is a great back to basics highland that will remind you of what makes a highland single a highland single. Just enough peat on the palate to remind you you're drinking scotch, but mellow and light enough to sip casually when you don't want to work for complex notes. Have a friend who "doesn't like scotch"? Yeah, you do. This might not turn them, but it's a good weapon to have at hand for those who had a run-in with dad's Laphroaig 10 year as a teen and think that's all scotch has to offer. 8/10 as it shouldn't be missed, and no bar is complete without a bottle, but not adventurous enough to warrant the final 2 stars.

    Really not worth the price

After many years of wondering what was missing form this scotch, I finally realized that it is not a bad scotch but not worth the price point, especially when The MacAllan 12 will blow it away in price, complexity, taste and finish.

    awful stuff

As a malt maniac of many years there are very few single malts I haven't tried this was one of them and I was bought a bottle for Christmas and was so disappointed. It's probably the most ordinary malt ive ever had along with the glenlivet 12. The finish is woefully short and the nose and palate remind me of vomit.A Dreadful dram.
