Dalwhinnie 15 Bottling Note

A great malt which Jim Murray awarded 95 points in his Whisky Bible, this is excellent value for money. The flavours are simple, but flawless, a clean, crisp 15 year old from the Dalwhinnie distillery, also part of Diageo's Classic Malts range.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Aromatic, toffee, fruit salad, lush nectarine, custard. Floral, apple blossom, honeysuckle. Apple peels, pear, touch of smoke.

Palate: Malty. Walnuts steeped in manuka honey with vanilla sponge. Gentle smoke weaves its way through the cereal with a touch of spice.

Finish: Long, malty, walnut, almond.

Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old Reviews

Underrated

I tried this at the distillery after the tour and instantly fell in love. Delightful on the nose and so easy to drink. A bottle of this never lasts long in our house.

A contemplative dram for a Winter evening

To my taste this is a pretty old school dram. Subtle, but not overly complex, there's just a touch of honey at the finish. No water needed with this one, it's a great whisky for sharing with good friends. A contemplative dram for a Winter evening - lovely.

Fantastic

Never tasted a better one for the price

Excellent malt at thus price

First taste, subtle nose sweet fruity maybe smokie. On the tongue smooth with a slight sharpness as expected from a single malt. After taste manuka honey malty. Not peaty so preferable to my taste.

Sweet Heather Honey....nice

Nose and flavour = Heather Honey. This is a very nice, light whisky

Surprisingly good from this distillery.

Nose: Cardamon perfume.

Palate: Burnt fudge and sweet oak spice.

After: Wood spice lingers with hints of sweet fruits.

FAR better than Winter Gold.

A solid Dalwhinnie.

I am an "Islay and Talisker" kind of guy, but I also enjoy well balanced and deep/rich high quality Speyside/Highland malts, and this is one of them. (Others include Glen Farclas, Cragganmore, Mortlach, etc. From other regions, Springbank deserves an honorary mention. Lowlanders are mostly boring, but Rosebank is worth a try if you can find a bottle at a decent price.) Every fresh dram of this opens up a flavour which you failed to detect in the previous tasting.

When you sip this liquid gem next to Dalwhinnie Winter Gold, you just cannot stop admiring the quality of this old classic. It is a pity that younger generations think Winter Gold is Dalwhinnie...

(Talisker too, tarnished their reputation somewhat with substandard products like Skye, Storm and Dark Storm. Port Ruighe is excellent though, especially if you like Cragganmore Port Finish.)

Fantastic

For me it's a salted caramel, more caramel than salt. Smells lovely and very smooth. Love it.

Can't put my finger on it.

I don't get the gentle smoke at all, but it's not what I'd class as sweet either, not unpleasant by any means, but not one or the other in my book.
