    Single Malt

    Dalmore 12 Year Old

Launched in late 2008 to replace the previous 12 year old, this single malt from the Dalmore distillery is a toasty, coffee-rich dram with beautifully spice notes and a thick mouthfeel. Very rich for a 12 year old.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

A warm coffee house in Seattle; roasting beans, the oily nuttiness in a fine espresso, there are little notes of malt and cereal and butter from the pastry counter with rich orange from the fruit bowl on the counter.

    Palate

Notes of Seville marmalade and triple sec with winter spices and fruitcake. Zesty cocoa and milk chocolate.

    Finish

    Medium, oranges.

No difference from lots of others at this price. Slightly dissatisfied.

    Spiced fruit

Lovely mouthfeel with spicy fruitcake taste that fades into a citrus finish.

Pineapple upsidedown cake, which sadly doesn't have a dusting of cinnamon, and didn't include a steam train journey to get there..

The dark gold colour was enchanting to gaze into, but kept an unbiased mindframe in the tasting. On the nose; Straight away, images of caramelised banana followed by a strong pineapple upside down cake presence. A fresher sweetness than the Lagavulin 16 that I marginally preferred. It was that of a tropical or pineapple nature, rather than a honey, Demerara, molasses or sugar sweetness, but not as fresh as say, the sweetness of a crisp apple or pear. A slight saltiness came through, but no complexities or further nuance was brought to the table. With water to open it up a tad, it became more savoury for me, with no smokiness, but more unburnt charcoal. It was frustrating. If it took me on a steam train journey through the hills and lochs to get me to the pineapple upsidedown cake, which sadly wasn't lightly christened with any cinnamon, nutmeg or dusted chocolate that I so wanted to experience from this, I'd have probably marked it higher than the Lagavulin 16, which I scored an 8.5. A frustrating 7.5, not quite an 8.

    Lovely dram

Caramel and fruitcake flavours ..with a warming fruity spice finish

    Exquisite. Sumptuous. A winner!

I get notes of caramel and fruitcake to begin with with a calm coffee and toffee apple finish. My brother bought my my first and my wife then bought me my second bottle. I love this whisky more and more each time I drink it. Goes down beautifully neat or with a drop of water to open it up if you’re new to single malts.
