    Dalmore King Alexander III

A sextuple-wood bottling from Dalmore. This auspiciously-named single malt Scotch whisky was matured in wine, Madeira, Sherry, Marsala, Kentucky bourbon and Port casks. King Alexander III is a rich, fruity Highland single malt.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Malty and utterly Dalmore. Seville orange zest, Parfait Amour, malty cereal, barley and chocolate. Creamy vanilla fudge, tropical fruit with a vaguely vinous quality.

    Palate

Medium, rounded. Winter berries, spice, zesty orange. Liqueurs emerge; Grand Marnier, kirsch and Frangelico.

    Finish

Peppery with well-integrated oak and the claret makes a last minute appearance.

Really good but not great and a bit pricey for me

Don't get me wrong this whiskey is really good but it's not 10/10. I think 8/10 is fair purely because there's cheaper better options one of which I will keep a secret until I have purchased as many as I can get my hands at it's current fair price. Whichever whiskey you choose enjoy........

It is more than 30yrs since I bought a bottle of Highland or Speyside whisky, although I have tasted many. I tasted KA III and bought a bottle. As someone who is not favourable towards Sherried, or Port whiskies etc I found that the tannic quality of the Cab Sav balanced the sweeter casks. This is a masterpiece of blending. Two or three casks blended with a spirit must be difficult enough but to do, but to blend six and yet maintain the character of the foundation spirit and create such balance is truly to be commended.

Royal taste and pallet with class

I do like whiskies from Dalmore (so I am a bit biased). Definitely one of the best Dalmore's I have ever tasted. It has a rather short aftertaste which at the same time is strangely undefinable. Maturing in 4 different casks may be pushing the limit (or just to get our intention). I mean this in a good way as it keeps you guessing and wanting more. Definitely a high class dram you can offer important guests. Beautiful bottle. I need to buy another one (although it is a bit pricey)
