    Dalmore King Alexander III

A sextuple-wood bottling from Dalmore. This auspiciously-named single malt Scotch whisky was matured in wine, Madeira, Sherry, Marsala, Kentucky bourbon and Port casks. King Alexander III is a rich, fruity Highland single malt.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Malty and utterly Dalmore. Seville orange zest, Parfait Amour, malty cereal, barley and chocolate. Creamy vanilla fudge, tropical fruit with a vaguely vinous quality.

    Palate

Medium, rounded. Winter berries, spice, zesty orange. Liqueurs emerge; Grand Marnier, kirsch and Frangelico.

    Finish

Peppery with well-integrated oak and the claret makes a last minute appearance.

Great balance but tough on the bank balance

This is a really good whisky. Really nice nose to it, the palate is complex - it sounds cliche but you can really taste, if you look for it the, the influence of the different casks, I personally thought the Madeira, Marsala, and Sherry were most noticeable, but it all goes together well. The finish is probably my favorite part of this dram as it is both very pleasing and long lasting. I can't imagine anyone who enjoys whisky not enjoying this. The problem, the big problem, with this whisky is its big price. As lovely as it is I just cannot for see myself paying what I paid for it (and I got it for a price roughtly 30% cheaper than MOM). It simply does not represent value for money and there are better options, at this price range, available. If you do have the cash lying round you'll not be disappointed, but you may also think twice about buying a second bottle.

    All hail the King

This whisky is, as others have said, a masterpiece. Take the Dalmore 15, which is already a sophisticated and well-balanced dram with a hearty and delicious Christmas cake profile. Then unlock all the dormant potential within that whisky: the fruit, the spices, the subtle woodiness, the rich and warming smoothness. By magic, this whisky takes all of those flavours and enhances them, making them stand out individually on your palate whilst you sip but still seeming like parts of a greater whole. A whisky you must absolutely try once in your life, even if the price means you have to make do with a sample (as in my case)

    Nice, but not wow...

This is a good whisky, and I enjoyed it, but I wasn’t wowed. I bought it as a special dram for Christmas to share with my Dad and while the package and bottle are special, it just didn’t wow like a lot of the reviews suggest. By all means, if you get a chance then it’s certainly enjoyable but I wouldn’t buy again.

A bit rough on the palate and not to my taste

I was quite disappointed. I found this whisky a bit rough on the palate, and it certainly wasn't to my taste. My partner, on the other hand, found it smooth and quite enjoyable.

Well worth the investment to experience the pleasure

This was without doubt one of the most memorable and thought provoking, and quite wonderful whiskies I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing, shared the privilege with some friends who were equally as delighted with the uniquely smooth complexities that can only be described first class.
