    Dalmore Cigar Malt

Dalmore Cigar Malt was discontinued in mid-2009, causing quite an uproar indeed. The whiskies used for the reworked version were actually slightly older, but naturally still pair perfectly with a cigar.

It's a great whisky, whether you drink with its intended purpose in mind or not. And if you do enjoy cigars, you'll want to know that the stick that provided the flavour benchmark for pairing is the hefty Partagas Serie D No. 4.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Caramel, shortbread, biscuits, coffee and chocolates. Simple, clean and moreish.

    Palate

Yet more toffee, caramel edging towards the burnt cinder-toffee side of things. Flamed orange-zest, and perfectly integrated sherry.

    Finish

Reasonably simple, Christingles (orange Zest and clove with a touch of cinnamon), more mid-palate than palate-coating.

    Overall

Definitely meets the criteria of pairing with a ‘BIG’ cigar.

    Love it

Not sure why and I'm sure not gonna complain, but the liquor store here sells it for $29 for a 750ml. I'll be buying more.

Pricey; But A Great Whisky All The Same

Had a chance to try this one by the glass at a company Christmas party, and it immediately jumped into my top 5 of all time. Bold, yet smooth; nice full body... this whisky is a stunner! Lots of caramel all the way through it... a bit like creme brulee both on the nose (toasted brown sugar) and on the palate (creamy vanilla custard, more caramel). Just a hint of cinnamon on the finish. Would get a full 10 stars from me if I could afford to buy a full bottle... at $104, I'll have to stick to buying it by the glass when I can. The Glendronach 15 Year Revival is a great alternative for a little over half the price.

    Doesn't work for me

This is a very nice whisky, plenty of sherry and some smoke on the end but it's way over priced. It just lacks something and doesn't seem to intergrate correctly, lacks balance. Wont be buying again unless Dalmore drop the price to well under 50 quid.

    ok, ok....

...so this arrived today, been waiting to try this for a while now. The nose is outstanding, like a confectionary tray. Time to get stuck in I say... Initial taste was very nice, but one of disappointment, not because it's bad, but because it's not as good as I was hoping - maybe I've got my expections set too high. It's expensive, so I'll give it a 2nd chance... ...ok back 5 mins later, I've told it to sit there and behave and do what it's supposed to do. Maybe it's because it took the initial tasting to calibrate my taste buds or maybe it was because it was a new bottle and drank straight out, who knows....but now we're talkin! This is more like it. Loveley mouth feel and lots of sherry (but not over done, just helping and playing it's well constructed part). Great finish I can still taste now. Ok, so I take it back, it's cracking. Is it worth the price? Jury is out. I'd be happier paying around £50-£55 for it, but saying that, would I buy it again.....yes, yes I would...so I guess that's that then. Want more now....hmmm....looking forward to tomorrow.
