    Unique among American whiskies.

In my experience sharing this with Scotch lovers the reaction seems universal - they don't like it at allo equate single malt with Scotch here is to miss the point entirely - this is an all-American. The malted barley is smoked with apple and cherry wood, it's barreled with apple and oak wood chips suspended in a "tea" bag. The short aging (20 months for mine) leaves it a bit rough on the finish but the aroma and flavors of the wood linger on for hours. I've never tasted a better whisky to sip around a campfire, it just seems to fit with the swirling smoke. For those that have tried this in prior years, there was a lot of variability from batch to batch even up through 2015, but in a recent visit to the Copper Fox Distillery our guide indicated that they have settled in to a fixed formula now so that what we are tasting now is what the product should be going foward. This has earned a permanent place in my limited cabinet - it's unique and aggressive flavor profile sets it apart from any other spirit on the planet. I suspect any taster could pick this one alone out of a blind tasting lineup, even while struggling with subtle differences between others. For better or worse! And for me, the rich potency of this one make it essential.

Wanted to like it, but I don't

Our local liquor store is selling this for $42 and the owner really hyped it. Alas, it has not lived up to the hype. I'll grant that it has some unique flavors and the finish is smooth, but there's also an overwhelming harshness that is very unpleasant and a chemical flavor that I don't care for at all. I'd advise trying the 3cl sample before committing to a bottle. In my own opinion, there are many better options at this price point.

    Firewood

It tastes found, and has a very distinct character. In the aroma and flavor I get an overwhelming firewood note. It's nothing like peat, and reminds me of a night in the country with some whisky and a bonfire. Nevertheless, I would prefer to leave the fire in the pit and not in the bottle. It's a decent whisky and something different but probably not something I would revisit again. NOTE: I had a dram from a friend's bottle that had been opened for a considerable amount of time(about a year) so flavors and aroma have probably changed and mellowed.

    It's something

I have to agree with the other reviewers, while it is an interesting taste I do not think I will buy it again. It will also spend a lot of time at the back of the liquor cabinet and I will only pull it out when my mortal enemies come to visit. I just didn't like the taste at all. Terrible smell to start with, smoother than expected for its age, and it finishes with minimum impact. Try something else if you can.
