A wonderfully flavoursome blended Irish whiskey here from the Copeland range, dubbed Merchants' Quay, as a reference to Donaghadee Harbour's very own historic quay. Produced in collaboration with Brian Watts, master distiller over at The Great Northern Distillery, this expression brings together three different types of whiskey. There's double-distilled malt whiskey aged in a first-fill bourbon cask, triple-distilled malt whiskey aged in an Oloroso sherry butt, and grain whiskey finished in a virgin oak barrel.
Ripe nectarine and red apple, with a few handfuls of raspberries too. Warm toffee and a hint of oak later on.
Still packed with orchard fruit notes, now paired with cinnamon, clementine zest, and brown sugar.
Subtle simmering spice sticks around.
What a find! This is the tastiest whisky I've ever tried & I cannot recommend it enough! Go on, try & see!
Got this with their coffee liqueur and it’s fantastic too, can’t wait ti visit them for a tour. R
I can't believe this whiskey has not had a review yet. I recommended it back in August when I put a review in for Black Bush. I'm not a big fan of Irish whiskey, especially single pot stills, preferring Scotch single malt whisky as a rule. Sacrilege from an Irish man I suppose but this is a very fine smooth blended whiskey and well worth it at the price. A lovely mixed ageing but the sherry finishing seals it. Lovely.
