Single Malt
Scotland
1 Jan 1984

A 23 year old expression from Gordon and MacPhail, this was distilled at the now silent Convalmore distillery in 1984 and matured in refill sherry hogsheads before bottling in July of 2008.
The nose is quite soft and light. There is a well balanced sweetness with juicy fruits and dried peels. Raisin notes rise with a touch of winter spice and malmsey. Some buttery vanilla fudge notes emerge with a beautiful cereal character. The palate is of medium-body with a toasted barley character. A gentle sherry note develops with chewy sultanas and vanilla spice, there is a superb creaminess with caramel and gristy notes with a touch of greenness. The finish is of good length with a lovely sweetness.

I like to travel Scotland and a real find is to come across a whisky bar with up to 200 malts. Now I wouldn't say I have tried them all but I did my fair share. This whisky was simply one of the tastiest. So smooth, fruity, sweet but not overpoweringly so, and what I can only think of as Rhubarb custards sweets. Creamy and delicious with no burn and a very pleasant finish. I went out and bought a bottle the next day!
