Compass Box's delicious Spice Tree was briefly illegitimate, according to SWA regulations. After adjusting its creation, Spice Tree is back, and better than ever. It's a blended malt made from Highland malt whiskies, aged in specially made casks with new French oak heads.
In April 2015, it was named Best Blended Malt Scotch at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Fragrant and aromatic with notes of dried herbs, spices, oak and vanilla. Has a bourbon note to it and a peppery tang.
Gingernut biscuits, toffee spices, herbal, vanilla, very rich and peppery.
Very spicy, big and rich.
60% Clynelish in this blend but im curious that i tasted some Bunnahabhain inside? I got this bottle same as the price of Clynelish 14, so I would rather get this Spice Tree in term of price, complexity, and the finishing.
Up to perhaps 2010 or thereabouts, Johnny Walker Green Label was my favorite malt blend. The re-introduced Green Label just hasn't measured up to the older formulation, and after searching for something to replace it, I came upon The Spice Tree. This excellent Compass Box creation has taken over the role of "best malt blend" in my liquor cabinet, and it honestly compares very favorably to most of the better single malts on the market. If you find the oak and spice in this blend to be a bit too much, you can try adding some Clynelish 14 single malt to tone it down a bit as Clynelish is the main component of Spice Tree and thus they blend together quite well - you'll just get more of that subtle, waxy character that Clynelish does so well.
For long I heard people ranting about Compass Box and how interesting it was. Finally got my hands on this and oh my... The layers of taste that seems to develop to a long finish is something you don't expect fron a blended whisky. I only drink JW but this is going to be on my shelf for life. Amazing stuff!! Next gonna try their whole range. 5 star whisky Matti from Finland
Spicy nose. Wonderful mouthful of flavour.
Possibly the nicest blended whisky at this price point. If you like sweeter side flavours this is a no brainer.
