Compass Box
Scotland
Compass Box's delicious Spice Tree was briefly illegitimate, according to SWA regulations. After adjusting its creation, Spice Tree is back, and better than ever. It's a blended malt made from Highland malt whiskies, aged in specially made casks with new French oak heads.
In April 2015, it was named Best Blended Malt Scotch at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Fragrant and aromatic with notes of dried herbs, spices, oak and vanilla. Has a bourbon note to it and a peppery tang.
Gingernut biscuits, toffee spices, herbal, vanilla, very rich and peppery.
Very spicy, big and rich.
Recently purchased a bottle of The Spice Tree from MoM and was amazed how much I liked it. Always bought Single Malts in the £30-£80 price range and this was as good as anything I've tried recently. If you've never sampled a compass box whisky and are intrigued... buy this version. You wont be disappointed. I loved it so much, I had to order a second bottle for the cabinet. Slainte. P.s I'm very tempted by the older version of this. The Spice Tree Extravaganza RRP £91 ish
I have it on good authority from an industry insider that this iS a blend of Clynelish, Dalluaine and Teaninich whiskies (though the ages are a closely guarded secret) blended and finished in specially crafted barrels. The virgin oak heads certainly add a huge dose of vanilla and as a Dalluaine lover, I can certainly detect the rich, malty, mouth-filling smoothness of some of their best sherried vintages. (Such a shame that Diageo stopped the Flora & Fauna, it was my favourite daily dram and I'm down to my last three bottles). Wonderfully spicy (mint and eucalyptus?), creamy nose, terrific mouth feel (no chill filtration - hooray) rich toffee, vanilla, apple, honey, lots of winter spice including anis and clove, perhaps just a touch too much pepper (shows the young age of some of the constituents?). The finish is a little hot but seeps away nicely into apples and honey. At the price it's very good and I'll certainly be looking out for more from Compass Box.
Just having my 1st taste and it's just gorgeous. Well worth the price tag.
Wouldn't describe my bottle as very rich and peppery, but it's nice. I picked up on the fragrant nose and vanilla. On the palate I definitely got some spices, vanilla, and malted barley.
Very strong taste and perfect mix.
