Winter is coming. The final season of HBO's Game of Thrones approaches. What on earth are we to do with ourselves while we wait? Enjoy some good Scotch. That's what.

Fortunately for those who are fans of both, HBO and Diageo have teamed up to create the Game of Thrones Single Malts Collection. Each whisky in the series is paired with a royal House of Westeros. This particular edition contains liquid sourced from the coastal distillery of Clynelish. It sits among scenic green pastures in Scotland's north, a landscape somewhat reminiscent of Highgarden, the home of the great House of Tyrell.

We're sure the fearless Queen of Thorns, Olenna Tyrell (portrayed by the legendary Diana Rigg) would approve of its floral quality, vibrant character and dignified label art, which features the Tyrell sigil - a golden rose.

    Tasting Note by The Producer

Light gold on appearance and bursting with fresh tropical fruits like papaya and mango, this Single Malt slowly subsides into a rich, creamy vanilla character. The finish is deeply complex with subtle sweet, maritime notes that interplay with the delicate light floral essence which warms and builds on the palate, revealing the signature sweet Clynelish ‘waxyness’ lingering on the palate.

    Accomplished

A very good Malt, young, but spritely and waxy; unmistakably Clynelish. Not sure it’s worth the full price, it’s not as good as the 14.

Master of Malt Customer Sep 5, 2021

    Not Clynelish-y

As with all Clynelish, there is a complete lack of wax with this bottling. Plenty of fruit but I can think of ten other distilleries off the top of my head that cover fruity. And, they do it better. The lack of age statement is a good indication of what you’re getting here; it tastes young and, in my opinion, a little hot. Having previously been a huge Clynelish fan, I occasionally take a punt on a bottle hoping against hope that the glory days have returned but I have to say I am continually disappointed. This was £35 on offer when I bought it and that is too expensive for it. Full price is ludicrous,

    lovely whisky

    Delicious

Master of Malt Customer Aug 2, 2020

Ignore that other review IMHO this is magnificent.

Yes yes it's not the 14 but so what?! It's delicious. Forget the G. O. T MARKETING NONSENSE. This is superb whisky noxious thick and pungent. Great abv, complex, loooong finish and a steal if you catch it on offer. M. Horrell

    Meh

Surprisingly 'meh' This one is VERY tropical-fruity, slightly bitter/ sour oak, and a lack of that waxiness which we love in Clynelish - so what's the point ? the standard Clyn 14 is better. Unless you love the marketing w@nkiness.
