    Single Malt

    Clynelish 14 Year Old

A coastal and peaty single malt, the flagship expression from Clynelish boasts a fabulous flavour profile filled with its distinctive waxy notes. Clynelish is the successor to Brora which closed in 1983, which it is built opposite. A well rounded Highlander, though this expression is a bit less peaty than the Brora bottlings of yore.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

    Zesty, mandarin, tangerine. Smoky.

    Palate

Quite light, great clarity. Orange, soft acidity. Dry oak. Mixed fruits, vanilla, leather.

    Finish

Quite long, bitter sweetness developing, spicy oak.

    Love It.

Clynelish has been prone to be a little patchy over the last few years and has taken a bit of a hiding from Its devotees, who long for the dram of old. As it’s always been one of my go to malts I can completely empathise with the disappointees, however, I think one had to be realistic. It has long been sold below its actual worth point and for many years we were used to getting a malt that could easily have commanded a sizeable percentage more. It seems to be back in the game now though and I have to tip my hat to Diagio for not completely ruining it, as we have seen with so many acquired great malts. Cask provision is also an issue currently and has been for some time. Sadly, they just don’t make em like they used to. I very much enjoyed this bottle and am old and ugly enough to remember the terrible decline in quality we suffered in the 80’s. Apologies from this old codger for running on. What I’m trying to say Is, try a bottle, even at fifty quid it still punches well above its weight and I’d truly a baby Brora.

    Unique

I've been thinking about clynelish 14 for a long time. Somehow it's been dodging me but finally got some. On the nose I get mandarin and fruits in general. On the palate it's crisp, quite a bit oak and little bit of peppery fell. Finish is medium lond with nice creamy feel to it. All and all I can see why many say good things about this whisky. Considering the price it's very good whisky and love having this non NAS whiskys where the years have created a taste of its own. Usually I'm an Islay whisky maniac so not my kinda whisky but I still like it. Unique taste I say.

    One of my favorites

Medium/light peat and nice smoke. Nice fruit and a little oily.

    Liked it

Complex, delicious and oily. A couple drops of water and a few minutes on the glass really help this expression.

    Get two

Clean and crisp spicy and slightly waxy. Clementines tangerines and orange juice from the nose throughout the development with hints of lemon brownies and simple smoke. The smoke and spice and bit of bitter at the end highlights the lengthy flavour profile of this terrific scotch.
