Cardhu Gold Reserve is a whisky that's as smooth and golden as its namesake. Cardhu Gold Reserve is a blend of Speyside and Highland single malt whiskies, each aged for at least 12 years. The result is a complex yet well-balanced whisky with notes of honey, vanilla, and citrus. Cardhu Gold Reserve is the perfect choice for those looking for a sophisticated yet approachable whisky.
Cardhu is the latest Diageo distillery to have a little core range shake up with the launch of a no age statement single malt (or two). Created using hand-picked toasted oak casks, Cardhu Gold Reserve offers something different to the classic 12 year old with a fruitier nose and a dry, warming palate.
Honeyed tinned stone fruits, toffees and a hint of strawberry with red apple and ginger coming through with a little water.
Fairly dry with biscuity oak and a little cinnamon as well as some development of those toffee and apple notes.
Gentle oak and (milk chocolate) caramel digestives.
Described as a "generous" whisky, it's a description that matches both the nose and its general easy-drinking nature.
A very pleasant and easy to drink malt. I can understand why people that lean towards peaty malts would not like this but personally I found it just about right for my pallet and as it was a present even enjoyed it more
Cannot understand the negative reviews?? Brother treated me for my birthday as I enjoy a fruity, warm whisky or bourbon- and I was delighted. Savoured the various levels of flavour, and will be a regular treat to self, going forward. Warm, no burn, stayed on the palate and did not disappoint. Thank you
Tastes like a spicy apple pie. So easy to drink and really tasty.
The palate is lovely with a nice warm finish. Slight bland/watery beginning but for the most part a lovely drink.
I'm always a bit surprised by a certain downrating trend for this smooth and tasty single malt (of course, please keep doing it so that I and other non-biased may continue enjoying it at around 30€ a bottle, when it could easily cost much more). The 4 stars reflect only the fact that it obviously isn't some 600€ whisky. But it's an excellent choice at 1/20 of that unnatainable price.
