Caperdonich 36 Year Old 1982 - Private Collection (Gordon & MacPhail)

Caperdonich 36yo 1982 Bottling Note

An impressively well-aged single malt from a lost distillery, this whisky was distilled at Caperdonich on 5 November 1982. It rested in a single refill bourbon barrel for nearly four decades, until it was bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in 2019, a whole 17 years after the distillery was closed. The cask yielded 114 bottles at 46.6% ABV, released as part of the Private Collection.

Tasting Note by The Producer

Nose: Soft and gentle aromas of citrus peel and traces of toffee combine with sweet hay and dried flower notes. Nuances of honeysuckle emerge, balanced by fresh highlights of newly-harvested mint.

Palate: Gentle flavours of liquorice root initially. Crisp red apple notes emerge; a drying oak undertone lingers before nutty notes surface. A generous sweetness remains.

Finish: Sweet flavours evolve into a refreshing element akin to newly-harvested hops. Mature oak endures on the finish.
