Smoky Scot is (surprise, surprise!) a heavily peated single malt, produced at the Caol Ila distillery. It was matured in bourbon oak casks for five years before being bottled at 46% ABV by Aceo. Boasting a typical Islay flavour profile, this peaty treat doesn't disappoint.
Woody, distinctly salty and of course oodles of smoke.
Maritime notes of iodine, seaweed and tar, with smoke swirling on the palate. These notes fade into floral layers, alongside toasted seeds and malt.
Alongside smoky peat, a hint of menthol on the finish with a slight maltiness remaining.
It is heavily peated, light in colour. One of the best peat malts on the market
This is a very young whisky. Has potential to be a very good whisky but needs to stay in the wood for a bit longer. Nice flavours and wonderfully smoky but not yet ready. Extremely pale in colour (nothing like the picture above). Give it another 5 yrs and it's sure to be a winner. More patience required.
I picked this up on sale for the price of a blend and was very impressed. This is Islay peat done right. Strong, very tasty and smooth, with even a hint of menthol on the finish to make it all the more memorable. I keep coming back to this one very often.
