Moch is Gaelic for dawn, and this release from Caol Ila is an altogether lighter prospect than the distillery's excellent 12 year old standard expression.
Lemon sherbet and apple crumble topping with custard. Dry grass and not a hint of smoke.
Sweet lemon meringue pie and soft, very soft mouthfeel. The peat hits a third of the way in but it's restrained; soothing wood smoke rather than burning tyres, and it retains a sweetness throughout.
Soft drying smoke.
A tasty, easy drinking Islay that's pulled back on peat but not on flavour.

This Caol Ila is a bit more restrained compared to it's 12 yo predecessor. Instead of a smoky, oily dram, you can expect more freshness while the signature peatiness is preserved. First, on the nose it's classically Caol Ila-ish peaty with fresh sweetness, some citrus influences and a feeling like you're hiking through a tall grass meadow on a chill morning (hence 'moch', meaning 'dawn'). On the tastebuds, the texture is pretty dry and not as oily as the 12 yo. Soothing smoke reveals itself, alongside with the earlier mentioned meadowy taste. Rounding it off, a sublime aftersmoke follows, being not too faint and not too pronounced. This is a great dram for a great price and distinctively different from it's 12 year old cousin. Good stuff! I have to agree with previous review - tasting notes are spot on, a really very pleasant lighter but still complex dram. thoroughly enjoyed, a nice addition to any collection
Just beautiful - very easy drinking, but has all the hallmarks of a classic Islay
Tasting notes are spot on. This is a beautiful sweet and fruity dram with a hidden smoky kick. I absolutely love it. Gentler than the 12 but it just ticks all the boxes for me.
